About
Perched lightly on a gnarled, lichen-covered branch is the Eurasian Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), a small but vividly patterned garden bird. Its most striking feature is the brilliant cobalt-blue cap and the sharp black eye-stripe that cuts across a white cheek patch, forming a dramatic contrast. The nape, wings, and tail are also various shades of blue, while the back is a soft greenish-yellow. A prominent sulphur-yellow breast and belly, often interrupted by a thin, dark line (less pronounced than on the Great Tit), completes its colorful attire. The birds fluffy, rounded posture against the muted background underscores its hardiness, often seen foraging with great agility, hanging upside-down from branches to glean insects and spiders from buds and bark throughout the Palearctic.
