About
Resting securely on a bare, twisted branch, this passerine is an exemplary male Great Tit (Parus major), one of the most widely recognized and largest members of the tit family across Eurasia. His plumage is instantly identifiable by the striking jet-black head and prominent black central stripe, or 'bib,' running down his bright lemon-yellow breast and belly. This black bib is typically thicker on males, distinguishing him from the female. The back and wings are a soft olive-green, punctuated by a thin white wing bar, and the cheeks are a pristine white, framing his dark, beady eye. The bird’s robust, dark bill and strong, grey legs indicate his adaptability in foraging, whether cracking seeds, gleaning insects from bark, or utilizing garden feeders. His bold posture and vibrant coloration reflect his energetic, often dominant, behavior within his woodland and park habitats.
