The remarkable group of birds flying over the serene body of water are Indian Skimmers (Rynchops albicollis), characterized by their unique bill structure. This species is immediately recognizable by its disproportionately long, bright orange bill with a distinct yellow tip, where the lower mandible is noticeably longer than the upper—a perfect adaptation for skimming. The birds possess clean white underparts, a striking black cap and nape, and deep brownish-grey to black upper wings and back. They are captured here in a synchronized flock, suggesting a social movement between feeding grounds. The very long, narrow wings and shallow wingbeats allow them to maintain a low, steady flight path just above the water surface, a prerequisite for their specialized foraging technique where they literally "skim" the water to catch small fish and insects.
