About
Generate secure, memorable passphrases using the Diceware method. Passphrases are long, random word-based passwords that are easy to remember but highly secure. This extension generates passphrases using a strong random number generator. No data is ever sent, and everything runs locally in your browser, making it private, fast, and reliable. If you’ve ever struggled to come up with a secure password or remember a mix of random letters, numbers, and symbols, you’re not alone. For years, we’ve been taught that passwords like P@ssw0rd123! are secure. However, while these passwords are difficult for humans to remember, they are not necessarily hard for computers to crack. This issue is well illustrated in XKCD comic #936, which explains how short, complex passwords can often be guessed quickly by modern algorithms. For example, a password like Tr0ub4dor&3 may look strong but can be cracked relatively quickly. Worse, because it is difficult to memorize, users often resort to writing it down or reusing it across different accounts, further compromising security. A better approach is to use passphrases consisting of random, common words. A phrase like "correct horse battery staple" is significantly harder for a computer to guess because of its length and randomness. While the words themselves are simple, the sheer number of possible combinations increases exponentially as more words are added, making it far more secure. At the same time, it remains easy to remember. This extension helps you generate secure, memorable passphrases by randomly selecting words from a carefully curated wordlist. With passphrases, you get the best of both worlds—something that is both difficult for attackers to crack and easy for you to use.
