About
Get Pinocchio is a browser extension that adds a tiny face to the articles you read. At a glance, you can see: • Bias – blue, purple, or red for political lean • Spin – nose length for “how much spin” vs grounded reporting • Vibes – smile or frown for the emotional tone of the piece Instead of arguing about “fake news,” Get Pinocchio just makes the framing visible so you can decide how much weight to give any article. HOW IT WORKS ---------------- When you load a long-form article, Get Pinocchio analyzes: • The outlet and domain • The language and tone of the content • The level of evidence vs speculation • The emotional charge of the wording It then gives the article three scores: • Bias – left, center, or right leaning • Spin – low, medium, or high spin (BS risk) • Vibes – negative, neutral, or positive sentiment These scores are shown as a simple face: • Face color = political bias (blue → purple → red) • Nose length = spin level (short → long) • Mouth curve = vibes (frown → neutral → smile) FREE MODE VS LLM MODE -------------------------- By default, Get Pinocchio runs in a fast, free heuristic mode: • Uses light-weight heuristics and open-source sentiment analysis • No account required • No API keys needed • No tracking or analytics If you want deeper analysis, you can optionally turn on “Bring Your Own LLM” mode in the settings and plug in your own API key from a provider like OpenAI, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, or a local Llama instance. In that mode: • Your key stays in your browser storage • The extension never sends your key to us • You pay your provider directly for any token usage PRIVACY --------- We care A LOT about privacy: • We do not track your browsing history • We do not store what you read • We do not sell or resell data • We do not inject ads • We do not proxy your LLM keys Article text is only processed to generate scores in the moment. You can read our full privacy policy at: https://getpinnochio.com/privacy WE ARE NOT A “MINISTRY OF TRUTH” ----------------------------- Get Pinocchio does not declare content “true” or “false.” The scores are model-driven estimates of: • How politically slanted the framing is • How much spin vs evidence is present • What kind of emotional reaction the writing is trying to provoke It’s a media literacy tool, not a fact-checking authority. Use it to notice framing, not to shut your brain off. ROADMAP ---------- This is an early version. Planned improvements include: • Better bias detection using open-source models • Social media content scoring • Improved UX with mouse tracking, animations and a 3D emoji like face • Real time context evaluation using community notes attribution • Multi-model averaging that detects inherent bias in LLM • More nuanced spin and vibes scoring • Article tags (satire, economics, election...etc) • Firefox and other browser support • Optional explanations for “why this article scored this way” If you try it and have ideas, I’d love to hear from you. If something is broken and you tell me about it I pledge to fix it. Let's add some context to the abyss and make the internet a little more honest. SUPPORT ---------- Questions, issues, or feedback?
