About
HerLens is a Chrome extension that uses AI to help users identify misogynistic language, male gaze narratives, and subtle patriarchal bias in the content they read online. In many cultures, sexist ideas are not always explicit; they are often hidden in jokes, headlines, advertising copy, and everyday wording. Over time, this kind of messaging can shape how women see themselves and how society sees them—without anyone consciously noticing it. HerLens is designed to make those invisible patterns visible. What it does: Scans webpage text and highlights potential misogynistic or male-gaze expressions. Offers clear, accessible explanations of why certain phrases or narratives may be problematic. Suggests more neutral or women-centered alternatives to help users build healthier, more empowering language and perspectives. Helps users become more aware of internalized bias in the content they consume and, optionally, in the content they write. Why users should install it: To read the internet more critically and consciously, instead of unconsciously absorbing harmful stereotypes. To protect their mental well-being by recognizing demeaning or objectifying content early. To support personal growth and “awareness building” around gender issues, especially for women who want to better understand and resist subtle patriarchal influence. To align their online experience with their values of equality, respect, and autonomy. HerLens is not about policing people; it is about giving users a new lens—Her Lens—to see the narratives around them more clearly and choose how they want to respond.
