Trello's newer editor uses a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) approach that automatically converts markdown syntax into formatted text as you type. While this might be helpful
  for some users, it can be frustrating if you:

• Want to see and edit the raw markdown directly
• Find the auto-conversion behavior disruptive to your workflow

Trello Markdown Editor replaces the rich text editor with a plain textarea whenever you edit a card description. You get a simple, monospace text area where you can write markdown
without any interference or auto-formatting.
