Streaming Word Filter — Watch what you love, the way you want.

Ever been mid-episode with your kids when a word lands that makes you wish you'd picked something else? Or winced when a character uses Jesus' name as a curse in an otherwise great film?

As a Christian dad, I became acutely aware of the language in the shows I watched when my daughter started watching them with me. It's easy to grow numb to certain words over the years — but sitting next to her, I realised I didn't want to. So I started building a content filter for my favourite streaming services, and I'm adding support for more over time.

Streaming Word Filter quietly mutes specific words — profanity, blasphemy, or anything you choose — in real time while you watch. It works across major streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube, with support for many more. It reads the captions, catches the word before you hear it, and adds a brief visual overlay so the moment passes without the jolt. You keep watching. Nothing else changes.
Built for families and faith-based households who want cleaner viewing without giving up the shows they enjoy.

    How it works
Turn on captions (the extension can enable them for you on most platforms), pick which words to filter, and press play. Everything happens locally on your device — no accounts, no tracking, no data leaving your computer. Start with a preset list for profanity or blasphemous terms, or build your own.

    What you control
Which words get filtered, including custom phrases
How long each mute lasts (1 to 30 seconds)
The colour and opacity of the on-screen overlay
Whether captions are auto-enabled on supported sites
Works with most streaming services that offer closed captions or subtitles. If a platform changes how it delivers content and something stops working, please let me know and I'll fix it.

    Why this exists
Half of every donation goes to church-run food programmes feeding people in local communities here in South Africa; the other half supports ongoing development. You're not just getting a tool — you're helping put meals on tables.

    Private by design
No account required. No data collected. No external servers. Everything runs locally on your device.
If you've been looking for a way to enjoy streaming again without compromising what matters to you, this is for you. Install it, set it up in under a minute, and get back to watching.

About

Streaming Word Filter — Watch what you love, the way you want.

Ever been mid-episode with your kids when a word lands that makes you wish you'd picked something else? Or winced when a character uses Jesus' name as a curse in an otherwise great film?

As a Christian dad, I became acutely aware of the language in the shows I watched when my daughter started watching them with me. It's easy to grow numb to certain words over the years — but sitting next to her, I realised I didn't want to. It works across major streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube, with support for many more. It reads the captions, catches the word before you hear it, and adds a brief visual overlay so the moment passes without the jolt. You keep watching. Nothing else changes.
