About
WordSnap is an elegant, distraction-free English dictionary built into your browser. It brings instant definitions exactly where you need them right on the page you're reading, without opening a new tab. HOW IT WORKS Select any English word on any webpage and a small WordSnap badge appears nearby. Click it and a refined definition card opens instantly — no typing, no searching, no interrupting your reading flow. WHAT YOU GET WITH EVERY LOOKUP — Full definition with clear, readable language — Part of speech (noun, verb, adjective, adverb…) — IPA phonetic transcription — Audio pronunciation in both UK and US English — Real example sentences to understand context — Synonyms you can click to look up in turn POPUP — YOUR PERSONAL WORD PANEL Click the WordSnap icon in your toolbar to open the full panel. From there you can: — Look up any word manually by typing it — Browse your Recent Words — a history of every word you've looked up — Review your Saved Words — a personal vocabulary list you build over time DESIGNED FOR READERS AND LEARNERS WordSnap was designed with editorial care. The typography is warm and legible — Playfair Display for word headings, EB Garamond for examples and phonetics, DM Sans for definitions. The palette is navy, cream and antique gold. It looks like a premium dictionary, not a generic browser extension. SMART — STAYS OUT OF YOUR WAY WordSnap only appears when you want it. It never triggers inside search bars, comment boxes, email fields, code editors, or any area where you're actively typing. And you can pause it anytime with the toggle in the toolbar popup — it reactivates the moment you switch it back on. WORKS EVERYWHERE WordSnap runs on every website — news articles, academic papers, Wikipedia, blogs, Reddit, documentation, social media. Wherever there is text, WordSnap can help. AUDIO ON RESTRICTED SITES Most dictionary extensions fail to play audio on sites with strict security policies (like Facebook or Instagram). WordSnap handles this correctly — audio is fetched through the extension's own context and played as a local blob, bypassing CSP restrictions transparently. PRIVACY — NO DATA COLLECTED WordSnap does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Looked-up words and saved vocabulary are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage. The only outbound request is the definition lookup to the free, open-source dictionaryapi.dev — which receives only the word you selected, nothing else. SUPPORTED LANGUAGES FOR THE STORE LISTING English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified). WordSnap looks up English words only — the localized listings help more people around the world discover it. COMPLETELY FREE WordSnap is free to use with no limits, no ads, and no account required.
