Changelog
- May 12, 2026description
Browse Smarter scans your installed extensions and shows you which ones are safe and which could be stealing your data. Get instant security scores, see exactly what permissions each extension has, and toggle risky ones off with one click.
💡Browse Smarter analyzes your installed extensions and shows you which ones are safe and which could be stealing your data. 📋Chrome extensions are required to declare their capabilities in a manifest file. This manifest tells Chrome what the extension is allowed to access, including permissions for tabs, browsing history, cookies, storage, network requests, and website data. Browse Smarter reads these locally available manifest permissions so you can clearly see what each installed extension is technically allowed to do. 🎯To make that information easier to understand, Browse Smarter uses a weighted scoring algorithm designed to evaluate both individual permissions and dangerous permission combinations. Some permissions may be low-risk on their own but become much more concerning when combined. For example, tabs permission by itself might be normal for many extensions. But tabs + history + access to all URLs can create broad visibility into your browsing activity. webRequest + cookies may indicate the ability to observe sensitive web activity or interact with session-related data. ⚠️Browse Smarter converts this analysis into a simple 0–100 security score for every installed extension. You can inspect detailed permission breakdowns by hovering over the extension name on the Browse Smarter pop-up, understand why an extension received its score, spot extensions requesting excessive access, and disable risky extensions instantly with one-click toggles. Browse Smarter will continue adding new factors to make scoring even more accurate, including developer reputation, extension behavior signals, local network monitoring, and detection of suspicious data packets leaving your browser. 🔎Features: - Provides a Security Score of all installed extensions - Hovering over each extension will show the permissions breakdown - Easy toggle on and off of option to enable/disable extensions without removing them completely
