About

I built TypeLens because I talk to AI tools all day and one day I wondered — how much have I actually written? Not read, not scrolled, not consumed. Actually written, with my own hands, to these machines.

There was no tool that answered that question. So I built one.

TypeLens runs silently in the background and counts every character you type on Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and any other site you choose. That's it. At the end of the day, the week, the month — you open the popup and find out.

Maybe you wrote the equivalent of a short story today. Maybe you've typed three novels worth of prompts this year. That number is yours and nobody else's.

The privacy model is simple and enforced in the code, not just promised in a policy. When a key is pressed, a counter goes up by one. The keystroke is gone. No text is ever accumulated, read, or stored anywhere. No servers. No accounts. No internet connection required. Everything lives in your browser and never leaves it.

TypeLens is fully open source. Every privacy claim can be verified by reading the code. Nothing is taken on faith.

Features:
- Counts characters typed on any site you choose
- Default tracking: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity
- Add or remove any site from settings
- Set active hours so it only runs during your work day
- Pause instantly with Ctrl+Shift+U
- Today, week, month, and all-time stats
- Per-platform breakdown
- Activity grid showing your last 6 months
- Fun equivalents: pages, essays, books, Harry Potter series
- Export your data as JSON anytime
- Delete everything with one button

Built by one person, for themselves first. If it surprises you the way it surprised me, that's the whole point.
