About
**Snap once. Prove forever.** ProofSnap turns your browser into a trust engine—capturing screenshots that can be proven real, time-bound, and untampered, all anchored on the Numbers Protocol decentralized media network. ProofSnap is a Chrome extension for creating verifiable screenshots of what you see online. Every capture is sealed with cryptographic proof, timestamped, and registered as an asset on-chain in the Numbers ecosystem. That gives each image a unique, traceable identity and an open, transparent provenance trail. Whether you are documenting online abuse, tracking edits to important pages, preserving breaking news, or keeping records for work, ProofSnap upgrades ordinary screenshots into trustworthy digital evidence—aligned with Web3 principles of openness, verifiability, and user control. **Key Features** • Blockchain-verified screenshots One click to capture the visible area of your current tab. Each screenshot is hashed and registered via Numbers Protocol as a verifiable on-chain asset with its own content ID. • Clear, tamper-evident timestamps ProofSnap embeds a timestamp at capture time and records it in the asset metadata, so you can show exactly when the screenshot was taken and detect later changes. • Part of the Numbers provenance network Captures are registered in the Numbers Protocol network, which is designed to provide an open, decentralized provenance layer for digital media and content authenticity. • Background certification A lightweight background worker handles the certification and on-chain registration process so you can keep browsing while your capture is being processed. • Privacy-first by design The extension only captures what you explicitly choose to snap. Data is sent securely to the Numbers backend for certification; no wallets, seed phrases, or complex Web3 UX are required. • Simple, focused UX Use it like a normal screenshot helper: open the popup, hit “Snap,” done. Or use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+S / Cmd+Shift+S) for time-sensitive situations. A compact UI shows capture status and your most recent certified assets. **How It Works:** 1. Capture You hit “Snap” or use the shortcut. The extension takes a screenshot of the visible area of the current tab. 2. Certify ProofSnap generates a cryptographic hash, adds a timestamp, and sends the asset to the Numbers Protocol API. The screenshot is registered on-chain as a verifiable media asset with its own content ID and provenance record. 3. Check Later, you (or anyone you share the asset with) can inspect the content ID and on-chain record to verify the asset’s integrity, timestamp, and provenance, confirming it has not been tampered with. **Who It’s For** • Journalists & researchers Capture how web pages, posts, or articles appeared at a specific time, with a verifiable integrity trail for investigations or reports. • Activists & watchdogs Document harassment, disinformation, policy changes, or takedowns before they vanish. Show that something really was online when you say it was. • Legal, compliance & operations Archive critical pages—dashboards, terms of service, transaction screens—as part of audit, reporting, and evidence workflows. • Trust & safety teams & community mods Keep proof of reportable content and decisions with time-stamped, tamper-evident screenshots that can be independently checked later. • Builders & developers Use ProofSnap as a practical tool for generating verifiable assets and combine it with Numbers Protocol APIs/SDKs when building provenance-aware products and services. **Permissions** ProofSnap needs permission to: • Capture the visible content of the tab you choose • Communicate with the Numbers Protocol API to certify and verify assets It does not track your full browsing history; it only processes pages when you explicitly choose to capture them. Turn your browser into a source of truth. Install ProofSnap and start creating screenshots you can actually prove.
