About

🏷️ WebControl Bridge — Domain Tab Labeler

Tired of juggling dozens of open tabs and not knowing which tab belongs to which site? WebControl Bridge solves this by automatically prepending the website's domain name to every tab title.

For example:
- "Google Search" becomes "[www.google.com] Google Search"
- "Inbox (5)" becomes "[mail.google.com] Inbox (5)"
- "ChatGPT" becomes "[chatgpt.com] ChatGPT"

This small change makes a huge difference when you have 20+ tabs open across multiple windows.

✨ KEY FEATURES

✅ Automatic — Works silently in the background on every page you visit
✅ Real-time — Updates instantly when sites dynamically change their title (e.g., Gmail, Claude.ai, Gemini, ChatGPT, and other single-page applications)
✅ Lightweight — Minimal performance impact, under 5KB total
✅ Smart detection — Avoids duplicate prefixes and handles iframe ads correctly
✅ No configuration needed — Install and it just works

🔒 PRIVACY FIRST

Your privacy is our top priority:

- NO data collection — We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information
- NO tracking — No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party services
- NO external servers — All processing happens locally in your browser
- NO account required — Just install and go
- NO ads — Completely free, forever

The extension only reads the current tab's hostname (visible in your address bar) and modifies the tab title locally. Nothing ever leaves your device.

🎯 WHO IS THIS FOR?

- Power users who keep many tabs open at once
- Developers working across multiple environments (localhost, staging, production)
- Researchers comparing content from different websites
- Anyone who has ever lost a tab and had to click through every one to find it

⚙️ HOW IT WORKS

Once installed, the extension runs a small content script on each page you visit. It reads the domain from your browser's address bar and adds it as a prefix (in square brackets) to the page's title. The title update is visible in your browser tab, making it easy to scan and locate the tab you need.

The extension also intelligently handles modern single-page applications (SPAs) that change their titles dynamically — so sites like Gmail, Claude.ai, Gemini, and ChatGPT always display the correct domain prefix.

❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Does this extension slow down my browser?
A: No. The script is extremely lightweight and only runs when the page title changes.

Q: Does it work on all websites?
A: Yes, it works on all standard websites (http and https).

Q: Will it break websites that use the title for notifications (like "(5) Inbox - Gmail")?
A: No. The prefix is added before the existing title, so notifications and unread counts remain fully visible.

Q: Can I disable it on specific sites?
A: The current version applies to all sites. If there's demand, we may add a whitelist/blacklist in future updates.
