GitHub AI Assistant adds an AI-powered sidebar to any GitHub repository page. Click the floating button to instantly analyze any repo — get structured summaries, explore the tech stack, and chat with AI about the codebase.

  HOW IT WORKS                                                                                                                                                                                        
  1. Navigate to any GitHub repository                                                                                                                                                                
  2. Click the purple floating button (bottom-right corner) 
  3. Generate a summary or start chatting with AI about the repo                                                                                                                                      
  4. Optionally load project files in the Files tab for richer, more accurate answers                                                                                                                 
                                                                                                                                                                                                      
  SETUP                                                                                                                                                                                               
  You need your own OpenAI API key (get one at platform.openai.com/api-keys). Enter it in the Settings tab. Your key is stored locally and only sent to OpenAI — never collected or shared.           
                                                                                                                                                                                                      
  PRIVACY & SECURITY
  • Your API key never touches the web page — it stays in the background service worker                                                                                                               
  • All secrets stored in sandboxed Chrome extension storage                                                                                                                                          
  • No data collection, no analytics, no third-party tracking
  • Only communicates with api.openai.com and api.github.com over HTTPS
