Changelog
- Apr 17, 2026description
FocusLimits helps teachers and school administrators guide student browsing behavior during class time by automatically limiting access to distracting websites. The extension detects patterns such as game-related searches or attempts to access non-approved sites. When thresholds are reached, students are temporarily restricted to a teacher-defined whitelist of approved educational resources. Key features: - Automatic detection of off-task behavior (e.g., games, non-academic sites) - Escalating restriction system based on repeated behavior - Whitelist-only browsing mode during restriction periods - Google Sheets integration for easy configuration - Real-time visual feedback using color indicators (green, yellow, red) - Simple “Ask for access” workflow for student requests FocusLimits is designed for classroom environments where educators want a lightweight, flexible way to keep students on task without constant monitoring. No personal data is collected or stored. All configuration is controlled by the school or educator.
FocusLimits helps schools keep students on task by adding a behavior-aware classroom focus layer on top of existing web filtering. Unlike traditional content filters that mainly rely on categories, blocked lists, and domain rules, FocusLimits is designed to respond to off-task browsing behavior during class time. It can detect things like game-related searches, attempts to visit distracting sites, and game-like browsing patterns, then respond automatically based on school-defined settings. FocusLimits is not a replacement for a school content filter. It is a lightweight supplemental tool designed to help teachers and administrators reduce classroom distraction and encourage student focus on managed Chromebooks. Key features • Behavior-aware detection of off-task activity, including game-related searches and distracting site attempts • Escalating restriction system based on repeated behavior • Whitelist-only browsing mode for teacher- or school-controlled periods • Optional full No Internet mode for times when students should not be online • Google Sheets integration for simple school or district configuration • Flexible control modes: • Normal mode • Inactive mode • Whitelist-only mode • No Internet mode • Real-time visual status indicators • Simple “Ask for access” workflow for student requests • Customizable whitelist of approved educational resources Important note FocusLimits is intended to work alongside a school’s main content filter, not replace it. It adds a classroom-focused behavior layer that can help schools respond to distraction patterns that ordinary filtering may not fully address. Privacy FocusLimits does not collect or sell personal data. Configuration is controlled by the school or educator through managed settings.
