About

Tired of scrolling past the same movies and shows you've already finished? Netflix Filter quietly fades or blurs the titles you've already watched, so the ones you haven't seen are the ones that stand out.

It works from your own viewing history on Trakt or SIMKL. Connect one account, and every watched movie and completed series gets dimmed as you browse Netflix. Nothing is deleted or hidden from Netflix itself — it's purely a visual layer in your own browser.

HOW IT WORKS
Connect a Trakt or SIMKL account and the extension syncs your watch history into your browser. As you browse Netflix — home, search, and category pages — it matches each tile against that history and fades or blurs the ones you've already seen. Series you're partway through can stay visible with a progress bar so you always know what to pick up next.

FEATURES
• Fade OR blur watched titles — your choice, with adjustable fade strength
• Works with Trakt or SIMKL — pick whichever you already use
• Filter watched movies and completed series independently
• Smart series handling — keep in-progress shows visible with a progress bar and an "episodes left" count
• Choose your series rule — filter only once a series is completed, or as soon as you've watched any episode
• Optional "Watched" badge and title text shown over filtered artwork
• Automatic sync every time you open or refresh Netflix, or switch to manual ("Sync now")
• One-click on/off toggle from the toolbar

GETTING STARTED
1. Install the extension.
2. Click the toolbar icon, then open Settings.
3. Connect your account:
• SIMKL — one click, approve access, done.
• Trakt — create a free Trakt API app (~2 min; the settings page walks you through it) so your private key is never bundled into the extension.
4. Open Netflix. Watched titles fade away automatically.

PRIVACY
• Your login tokens and watch history stay in your browser. They are never sent to me or to any server I control.
• The extension only ever talks to Netflix and to Trakt/SIMKL (to read your own history).
• No personal tracking, no analytics, no ads, and no account with me is required.

GOOD TO KNOW
• Once in a while a title might not be faded. Matching uses the title, year, and type Netflix shows for each tile, so a match can be missed if your Netflix display language differs from your Trakt/SIMKL titles, if a tile is too ambiguous to identify safely (e.g. two titles with the same name and no year to tell them apart — skipped rather than risk hiding the wrong one), or if a very recent watch hasn't synced yet. Try "Sync now" in Settings if something looks off.
• This is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Netflix, Trakt, or SIMKL. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

FAQ
Q: Do I need a Trakt or SIMKL account?
A: Yes, one of them. That's where your watch history comes from. Both are free.

Q: Which should I choose, Trakt or SIMKL?
A: SIMKL connects in a single click. Trakt works just as well but asks you to create a free API app first (a one-time, ~2-minute step the settings page guides you through). If you already track your watching on one of them, just use that one.

Q: Does it change or delete anything on my Netflix account?
A: No. It only dims tiles visually in your browser. Your Netflix account, viewing activity, and My List are untouched.

Q: Will it slow Netflix down?
A: No noticeable impact. Your history is synced in the background and cached locally, and the on-page work is lightweight.

Q: A movie or show I've watched isn't being faded. Why?
A: See "Good to know" above — it's almost always a title/year/language mismatch or a watch that hasn't synced yet. Try "Sync now" in Settings.

Q: Does it work on the Netflix mobile app?
A: No. It's a desktop browser extension, so it only works with Netflix in your browser.

Q: Is it free?
A: Completely. If you'd like to support development there's an optional tip button, but it's never required and nothing is locked behind it.
