About
Solstice adds dark mode to every website you visit — even the ones that don't support it natively. Tired of blinding white pages at night? Solstice intelligently darkens websites using one of three strategies, automatically picking the best one for each site: - Native: Forces a site's built-in dark theme when one is detected via color-scheme or prefers-color-scheme CSS - Filter: Applies smart color inversion with hue rotation, preserving images, videos, and media in their original colors - Override: Directly overrides page styles with a dark color palette for sites where other methods fall short ## FEATURES Per-site control — Enable dark mode on specific sites with an allowlist, or turn it on everywhere and exclude the ones you don't want. Smart detection — Solstice scans each page for native dark mode support, CSS custom properties, and theme toggle buttons. Sites that already have a dark theme are skipped automatically. Adjustable settings — Fine-tune brightness, contrast, and sepia for each site individually. Every site gets the look you want. Media preservation — Images, videos, iframes, and canvas elements are automatically excluded from color inversion so they look natural. Lightweight and fast — Solstice runs at document start with a flash-of-unstyled-content guard so pages load dark from the first frame. No flicker, no delay. Two operating modes: - Allowlist mode: dark mode only on sites you explicitly add - Everywhere mode: dark mode on all sites, with an exclude list for any that don't need it Works on all websites — news sites, documentation pages, forums, web apps, blogs, and everything in between. Solstice is open source, privacy-respecting, and requires no account or sign-up. All settings are stored locally in your browser.
