About

This vibrant marine resident is a Maroon Clownfish (Premnas biaculeatus). Unlike its more common cousin, the Orange Clownfish, this species stands out with its rich, maroon-to-black body, a brilliant yellow tail fin, and two to three bright white vertical stripes on its body. These fish are known for their distinctive pair of large spines on each cheek, which they use for defense.

Just like other clownfish, they form a symbiotic relationship with sea anemones. The Maroon Clownfish is particularly selective about its host, often choosing the Entacmaea quadricolor, or Bubble-tip Anemone. The fish finds refuge from predators within the anemone’s stinging tentacles, while it provides its host with cleaning services and nutrients.
