About

Stop scrolling TikTok Shop and guessing which products are real winners.

You see a sweater with 51K sold and 2 million likes on a video, and you wonder — is this trending right now, or already saturated? Are people actually buying, or is the engagement bot traffic? What does it cost to source, and what would you actually keep after fees?

That is where TokScout comes in.

WHY TIKTOK SHOP RESEARCH IS HARD

TikTok Shop moves at the speed of a feed. By the time you spot a product, screenshot it, search a supplier, and run the math, the trend already moved on or your competitor jumped first.

- The engagement numbers on a video do not tell you whether the trend is heating up or cooling down.
- The product page tells you sales volume and rating, but you cannot tell at a glance how the discount, the platform fee, and the sourcing cost shake out.
- The supplier search lives on a different platform in a different language.
- The "fake traffic" trap: high views with low real engagement, products that look hot but rarely convert.

Most sellers handle this with a stack of browser tabs, a spreadsheet, and a gut feel. The result is slow, error-prone, and expensive.

WHAT TOKSCOUT DOES

TokScout is a Chrome extension that adds a small data panel directly inside TikTok product and video pages. It reads what is already on the page, runs the math, and shows the numbers you need to make a sourcing decision.

No spreadsheets. No second screen. No copy-paste.

Here is what you get:

Real-time engagement tracking — When you open a TikTok video, the panel shows likes, comments, and shares as soon as they render. Engagement rate, computed as (likes + comments + shares) divided by views, is shown in a single line.

24-hour velocity estimate — As you revisit a video over time, TokScout snapshots the view count locally. It compares the most recent value with earlier samples to estimate how fast the video is gaining views per 24 hours, so you can tell rising trends from saturated ones.

Product page metrics — On a TikTok Shop product page, the panel switches into product mode and surfaces star rating, review count, units sold, current discount percent, and listed price.

Three-color alert engine — Color-coded banners appear at the top of the panel when something noteworthy is detected:
- Red: views above 100K but engagement rate below 0.2 percent. Possible fake traffic.
- Green: like rate above 5 percent combined with a sharp velocity spike. Likely viral.
- Yellow: high frequency of negative keywords (fake, broken, scam, terrible, worst, trash, horrible, awful, rip off, waste) in the visible comments. Quality risk.

One-click 1688 supplier search — Click "Search on 1688" and a new tab opens on 1688.com pre-filled with the product title as a keyword search. No API key, no account login, no data shipped to any server.

Net profit calculator — The product price auto-fills into the selling price field. Type your sourcing cost and shipping, and the panel deducts the platform fee (5 percent by default) and shows your dollar profit and margin percent. Margin under 15 percent turns red.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Install TokScout. The panel stays dormant on the TikTok homepage and feed.
2. Open any product detail page on TikTok Shop or any /@user/video/ video URL. The panel slides in at the top right.
3. Browse the product or watch the video as you normally would. The panel updates as TikTok loads metrics.
4. Type your sourcing and shipping cost into the calculator. Profit and margin update on every keystroke.
5. Click Search on 1688 to validate supplier cost in a new tab.

That is the full loop. From scroll to sourcing to math, under ten seconds.

WHY AN IN-PAGE PANEL INSTEAD OF A POPUP

Popup-based extensions force you to click the toolbar icon, lose your scroll position, and squint at a tiny window. TokScout renders directly inside the page using a Shadow DOM container, which means:

- The panel cannot be styled or read by TikTok's scripts. Your CSS does not leak in.
- Your scroll position never moves. The panel sits at top right, out of the way.
- You can drag the panel anywhere, collapse the body, or hide it entirely with the close icon. Position and state persist across visits.

HISTORY AND VELOCITY DETAIL

TokScout records a small snapshot per URL each time you load a video, containing only a timestamp and the current view count. Snapshots older than 30 minutes are auto-pruned. New snapshots are throttled to once per 30 seconds per URL to keep storage minimal.

Comparing two snapshots gives the 24-hour velocity estimate. Comparing the latest velocity to the baseline rate produces the spike multiplier used by the green alert.

All snapshots are stored locally with chrome.storage.local. They never leave your machine.

CALCULATOR DEFAULTS

- Platform fee: 5 percent. Reflects the standard TikTok Shop seller fee at time of writing.
- Margin warning threshold: 15 percent. Below that, the result turns red.
- Inputs accept decimals and clear automatically when you switch to a new product page.

REAL SCENARIOS WHERE THIS HELPS

Validating a viral video before sourcing:
You see a hoodie video with 2.2M likes. The panel shows engagement rate 5.8 percent and a green banner with velocity x3.4. That tells you the video is climbing, not coasting. You source the hoodie before your competitors do.

Spotting fake traffic:
A product page shows 800K views and 51K sold, but the panel shows engagement rate at 0.08 percent and a red banner. The traffic is suspicious. You skip this one.

Pricing decisions on a thin-margin product:
The product is listed at 19.99 dollars with a 43 percent discount. You type cost 4.50 and shipping 2.30. Calculator shows net profit 12.19 and margin 61 percent. Green light.

The same product, but bad math:
Cost is actually 9.80 with 4 dollars shipping. Calculator shows margin 11 percent, in red. You skip it or renegotiate.

Comparing two products quickly:
Open product A in tab one, product B in tab two. Both panels carry their own state, so you flip between tabs and read sold count, rating, and your math without retyping.

Quality risk early warning:
A product has a 4.3 rating and 1900 reviews, but the comments section trips a yellow alert about negative keywords. You pull up the reviews tab and confirm: many one-star complaints about defects. You walk away.

WHAT TOKSCOUT DOES NOT DO

TokScout does not log into any account or read any account data.
TokScout does not send any of your browsing or shopping data to any server.
TokScout does not load remote code or third-party scripts.
TokScout does not track you across websites.

The only permissions it uses:
- storage — store panel position, settings, and the per-URL view-count history used for velocity.
- Host access to www.tiktok.com and shop.tiktok.com — read product and video metrics directly from the page DOM. Required to do the work.

That is the entire permission surface. No analytics, no telemetry, no network requests other than the 1688 search button which simply opens a new browser tab on 1688.com.

FREE TO USE

Every feature listed here is available without an account, without a sign-up, and without a credit card. The extension does not require activation. There is no upsell flow inside the panel.

THE MATH BEHIND THE PANEL

Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares) / views * 100, expressed as a percent.

24h velocity = (current views minus baseline views) / hours elapsed * 24. Baseline is the snapshot closest to five minutes ago. The spike multiplier is the current rate divided by the rate observed earlier in the same 30-minute window.

Net profit = selling price minus sourcing cost minus shipping minus platform fee.
Platform fee = selling price * 5 / 100.
Margin = net profit / selling price * 100.

No hidden discounting. The panel shows you exactly what the formulas compute.

WHO THIS IS FOR

- TikTok Shop sellers running their own catalog who need to verify trends, not chase them.
- Cross-border dropshippers sourcing from 1688 who want supplier links and margin math in one place.
- Product researchers running daily scans on hundreds of items.
- Affiliate creators picking products to feature.
- Anyone learning TikTok Shop economics and tired of bouncing between tabs and spreadsheets.

GETTING STARTED

Install the extension, open any TikTok Shop product page or shoppable video, and the panel appears. No account, no sign-up, no setup wizard. Just the numbers, where you need them.
