About

DoomDimmer helps interrupt mindless scrolling without blocking the web.

Instead of preventing access to distracting sites, DoomDimmer watches for rapid, continuous passive scrolling patterns locally in your browser. When scrolling appears automatic, it progressively fades the page toward grayscale and blur. If scrolling continues, DoomDimmer asks you to type a short reflection phrase before restoring the page.

Core features:

- Local doomscroll detection based on scroll behavior and engagement patterns.
- Progressive grayscale and blur visual intervention.
- Reflection prompt restore flow.
- Popup controls for current-site toggle, sensitivity, and temporary pause.
- First-run onboarding with recommended defaults.
- Settings for presets, custom thresholds, restore phrase, case-sensitive or forgiving matching, visual effects, and accessibility-friendly restore.
- Per-site rules with wildcard support such as `*.reddit.com`, plus optional per-site preset, prompt, cooldown, and visual overrides.
- Optional local aggregate stats, disabled by default and clearable at any time.
- Import, export, and reset settings.

Privacy-first design:

- No account.
- No analytics.
- No external APIs.
- No server processing.
- No remote AI.
- No sale or transfer of user data.
- Settings and optional aggregate stats stay in `chrome.storage.local`.

Permissions are limited to local storage and access to normal websites so DoomDimmer can automatically detect scrolling behavior and apply reversible effects on pages where it is enabled.
