About

PaperMode is a paper-style reading mode for people who read a lot on the web.

Use it for articles, documentation, research pages, newsletters, wikis, and other long-form webpages. Inspired by the calm, grayscale feel of e-ink readers, PaperMode turns busy pages into a quieter reading surface with Light and Night modes, adjustable intensity, per-site settings, and image hover reveal.

It is built for readers, students, researchers, developers, and anyone who wants a quieter way to read text-heavy pages.

KEY FEATURES

- One-click reading mode
Turn PaperMode on or off from the Chrome toolbar popup.

- Light and Night modes
Use Light mode for warm paper-style reading during the day, or Night mode for lower-brightness reading in darker environments.

- Adjustable intensity
Tune the effect from subtle to strong with a 0-100% slider.

- Per-site settings
Use global defaults across the web, or save a different mode and intensity for the current site.

- Image hover reveal
Images are softened while reading. Hover over an image to reveal the original color version.

- Works on regular webpages
PaperMode runs on http and https pages and keeps links, forms, buttons, and scrolling usable.

WHAT PAPERMODE DOES NOT DO

PaperMode is a visual reading aid. It simulates a paper-inspired screen appearance, but it does not turn your display into real e-ink hardware, change your monitor backlight, or make health claims.

Some complex websites, videos, canvas content, browser-internal pages, and restricted Chrome pages may not be fully affected because of browser limitations.
