About
Localhost Control is a developer utility for local web development on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It helps you quickly inspect local TCP listeners, identify development servers, and stop stale processes without digging through terminals, Task Manager, Activity Monitor, or system process tools. The extension opens as a clean Chrome side panel and shows useful process details such as port, PID, process name, command line, project path, CPU usage, memory usage, threads, handles where available, uptime, and HTTP status when available. After installing the Chrome extension, install the Localhost Control native host for your operating system: https://github.com/LukasPellant/Localhost-Control/releases/tag/v0.1.2 The native host is required because Chrome extensions cannot directly inspect or stop operating system processes by themselves. If the native host is missing, Localhost Control will show a download button and guide you to the installer. Key features: Scan local development ports See which process owns each localhost listener View CPU, RAM, thread, handle, and uptime details where supported by the operating system Open detected localhost apps in a new tab Copy local URLs Open a terminal in the detected project folder Stop stale dev server processes safely Keep protected/system processes visible but disabled for killing Save local preferences such as filters, trusted projects, hidden ports, and refresh interval Supports Windows, macOS, and Linux through OS-specific native host packages Localhost Control communicates only with its native messaging host installed on your own computer. It does not collect telemetry, does not send browsing data anywhere, and does not transmit process data to external services. Permission Justifications nativeMessaging: Required to communicate with the locally installed native host, which scans localhost listeners and returns process metadata from your operating system. sidePanel: Required to provide the extension UI as a persistent Chrome side panel. storage: Required to save local preferences such as filters, trusted project paths, hidden ports, and refresh interval. Privacy Text Localhost Control does not collect, sell, share, or transmit user data. All scanned process and port information stays on the local machine and is displayed only inside the extension UI. The extension does not use analytics, telemetry, remote servers, or third-party tracking.
