About

Git Diff Patcher Browser Companion is the visible, user-controlled bridge between Git Diff Patcher (GDP) Desktop and ChatGPT.

It brings locally queued GDP updates into an already-open ChatGPT conversation, helps long development sessions continue in a fresh chat, and creates detailed context exports from the browser-readable information you choose — while keeping ChatGPT Send, repository changes, and terminal execution under your control.

Built for developers who use ChatGPT together with local repositories, GDP Browser Companion turns the browser into a focused handoff surface for GDP’s local review and verification workflow.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Receive GDP relay updates from GDP Desktop through an authenticated local connection.

• Prepare queued GDP replies inside the visible ChatGPT composer.

• Preserve existing composer content instead of silently replacing your draft.

• Review, copy, prepare, or cancel a relay handoff from the in-page GDP controls.

• Select which GDP repository is associated with the current ChatGPT conversation.

• View live local relay activity, including queued, prepared, and completed handoffs.

• Export the visible ChatGPT conversation as a structured Full Context package.

• Include the current composer draft, visible links, attachment labels, file-preview text, and visible diagnostic or tool blocks according to your settings.

• Maintain a local GDP transcript ledger so browser-readable context from long-running conversations remains available for later exports.

• Use GDP Branch to open a fresh ChatGPT conversation with a prepared continuation draft.

• Optionally create guided GDP Branch handoffs after a configurable conversation length.

• Choose compact, rich, or maximum context-export presets.

• Move and resize the in-page GDP companion tray to fit your workspace.

• Use light mode, dark mode, or your operating system appearance.

DESIGNED FOR LONG DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS

Complex repository work rarely fits inside a single message.

GDP Browser Companion helps preserve continuity across long coding, debugging, verification, and review sessions. Its Full Context export creates a structured record of the browser-visible conversation, while GDP Branch prepares a continuation package containing the latest workflow state, verification evidence, repository context, authority boundaries, and the next expected action.

The new conversation receives a prepared draft, but the extension does not submit it automatically. You review the handoff and press ChatGPT Send yourself.

LOCAL-FIRST BY DESIGN

The companion communicates only with GDP Desktop on the loopback address of your own computer:

http://127.0.0.1

The connection uses the local port and authentication value provided by GDP Desktop.

The public extension does not send your ChatGPT conversation, composer content, local relay token, or exported context to Me the Tech servers.

It contains no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, tracking pixel, or remotely hosted executable code.

The public build also does not follow conversation links or download linked file contents. It can process only information available to the extension in the visible ChatGPT page, such as visible messages, links, attachment labels, tool blocks, and mounted file previews.

YOU REMAIN IN CONTROL

GDP Browser Companion deliberately preserves a clear safety boundary.

The extension:

• does not press ChatGPT’s native Send button;

• does not synthesize Enter or automatically submit messages;

• does not apply patches;

• does not execute terminal commands;

• does not modify repositories;

• does not commit, reset, clean, or push Git changes;

• does not control your computer independently.

ChatGPT can propose and review work.

GDP Desktop keeps local authority over patches, commands, verification, rollback, and repository operations.

The Browser Companion only provides the visible, user-controlled handoff between them.

PRIVACY AND DATA CONTROLS

Processing starts disabled.

Before enabling the companion, you must review and accept the local data-handling disclosure. You can choose what Full Context exports include and disable companion polling at any time.

The extension may store the following locally on your device:

• enablement and consent settings;

• the GDP Desktop loopback port and local authentication value;

• context-export preferences;

• repository bindings for individual ChatGPT conversations;

• GDP-prefixed relay, branch, transcript, and interface state.

The popup includes a Clear Local GDP Companion Data action that removes extension settings, the local authentication value, transcript-ledger data, and GDP-prefixed page state.

NARROW PERMISSIONS

GDP Browser Companion requests only the permissions required for its single purpose:

• Storage — saves local settings, consent, the local relay configuration, and interface preferences.

• chatgpt.com — displays the GDP controls, reads browser-visible conversation content after consent, prepares the visible composer, and creates user-requested context exports and GDP Branch drafts.

• 127.0.0.1 — communicates with the authenticated GDP Desktop relay running on your own computer.

It does not request access to every website, browsing history, downloads, cookies, identity providers, background traffic interception, or native messaging.

REQUIREMENTS

Git Diff Patcher Desktop must be installed and running on the same computer.

To connect:
- Enable the Browser Reply Relay in GDP Desktop.
- Copy the local relay port and authentication value.
- Open the Browser Companion popup.
- Accept the local data-handling disclosure.
- Enter the local connection details and enable polling.
- Keep the target ChatGPT conversation visible.

The extension works on chatgpt.com and is intended to be used together with GDP Desktop.
