  digging through five-year-old SEO articles or AI-generated rewrites
  of the same press release — just the recent, relevant results you
  actually wanted.
  
  Pick a timeframe — past hour, day, week, year, or any custom range —
  and Recen applies it automatically to every Google search you make.
  You don't have to open the "Tools" menu and click "Past year" every
  single time anymore.
  
  Your settings sync across all your Chrome browsers through your
  existing Google account. Configure Recen on your work laptop, and
  your home desktop has the same setup the next time you sign in.
  Get a new PC? Recen's settings are already there.
  
  
  Why I built this
  
  I was tired of search results getting noisier. In 2026, Google
  results are buried under AI-generated rewrites, SEO farms, and
  content from years ago that somehow still ranks first. Chrome's
  built-in date filter works, but you have to click through three
  menus every time you search. There used to be extensions that
  solved this with a single click, but most of them stopped being
  maintained years ago and don't support Chrome's modern extension
  system.
  
  So I built Recen for myself. It's a small tool that does one thing
  and stays out of your way.
  
  
  What it does
  
  - Date presets: past hour, 24 hours, week, month, 3 months, 6 months,
    year, 3 years, custom date range, or no filter (10 options total)
  - One-click on/off toggle in the popup
  - Cross-device sync via your Google account — set it up once and
    your other Chromes pick it up automatically
  - A small badge on Google Search pages shows your active filter at
    a glance, and clicking it opens a quick-change menu
  - Two badge themes: dark walnut or light cream
  - Keyboard shortcuts (Alt+Shift+2 through 5 by default; two more
    slots are user-assignable)
  - A user-defined spam domain blocklist (up to 50 sites) for the
    results you'd rather never see
  - Calendar UI for picking custom date ranges
  - English and Japanese localization
  - Works on Google Search across 11 country domains
  
  
  About privacy
  
  Recen does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. No
  analytics. No telemetry. No external API calls.
  
  Your settings sync via Chrome's own infrastructure
  (chrome.storage.sync), which means they sit on Google's servers
  tied to your Google account — not on any server I control. I don't
  have any servers. There's nothing on my end to log into, breach,
  or sell.
  
  Recen requests the minimum permissions needed to filter Google
  searches: storage (for your settings), declarativeNetRequest (to
  add date filters to URLs), webNavigation and tabs (to handle
  Google's in-page search box re-searches), and host permissions
  limited strictly to Google Search domains.

  Do you find yourself clicking Google's "Tools" → "Any time" menu on every single search just to filter by date? Recen eliminates that friction. It adds a persistent date filter to Google Search that remembers your preference across tabs, sessions, and devices — so you always see the freshest results without repeating the same clicks.
  
  HOW IT WORKS
  Recen places a compact, unobtrusive badge on your Google search results page. Select a preset time range or enter a custom date range. Your choice applies instantly and carries forward automatically to your next search. No more resetting.

  Filter Google search results by date with presets — today, past week, past month, past year — or define any custom date range you need. The filter rewrites Google's search URL parameters directly, so results load at full speed without a second request.

  Switch between newest results first and most relevant with a single click. Unlike any other date filter extension currently on the Chrome Web Store, Recen gives you direct sort order control alongside your date filter.

  Your date filter preference is saved automatically and synced via Chrome's built-in sync. Sign into Chrome on any device and your filter settings follow you — your preferred date range and sort order are always ready, whether you're on your desktop, laptop, or a secondary machine.

  Manually add up to 50 domains to a personal site blocklist. If a specific website consistently fills your search results with AI-generated filler content, add it once and stop seeing it. Note: Recen does not automatically detect AI-generated content — this is a manual domain exclusion tool.
  
  ■ Keyboard Shortcuts
  Control Recen's filter and sort settings entirely from the keyboard for a fully mouse-free search workflow.
  
  ■ Toggle On/Off Anytime
  Disable Recen instantly with one click to restore Google's default behavior. Toggle back on and your previous settings are preserved exactly as you left them.
  
  WHAT MAKES RECEN DIFFERENT
  Most date filter Chrome extensions reset the moment you open a new tab or return from a link. You set your filter, click through to an article, hit back — and the filter is gone. Recen solves this permanently. Pair the persistent date filter with the site blocklist to surface recent content from quality sources and nothing else.
