About

TakeMeasure puts a precision measurement overlay on top of any web page or PDF — no downloads, no document editing. Open your drawing in Chrome, calibrate to a known distance, and start measuring.

Designed for architectural and engineering documents distributed as PDFs, but works on any web content.

── MEASUREMENT MODES ──

Point-to-Point Path
Click to build a multi-segment path. Each segment shows its distance and a running total, with color-coded lines and perpendicular dimension poles.

Rectangular Area
Click a corner and drag to capture a region. Width, height, and area are calculated and labeled automatically.

Reference Ruler
Anchor one point and see live horizontal, vertical, and diagonal distances as you move the cursor.

Window Corner Reference
Same as Reference mode but anchored to a corner of the viewport — useful for layout measurements.

── CALIBRATION ──

Pick any two points that represent a known real-world distance, enter the value and unit, and all measurements update instantly.

Supported units: inches · cm · mm · feet · feet-and-inches · meters · pixels · screen %
Fraction precision: whole, ½, ¼, ⅛, 1/16 (mm always rounds to whole numbers)

── PERSISTING & EDITING ──

Long-press (1 second) to freeze a measurement onto the canvas. Persisted measurements stay in place as you scroll and zoom.

After placing a measurement:
  • Click once to enter edit-ready state
  • Drag the body to reposition it
  • Click a control point or edge to resume live editing
  • Rotate paths and rectangles with the arc handle above the shape
  • Ctrl+C copies the measurement as a PNG image you can paste into any document

Ctrl+V pastes a copy of the last measurement, offset and ready to reposition.

── KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS ──

── PRIVACY ──

TakeMeasure stores only your calibration settings locally via Chrome's storage API. No data is collected, transmitted, or shared with anyone.
