About
hide-em is a personal attention filter for the web. You add names, keywords, or phrases. Anything matching disappears from the pages you visit, shortly after it loads. That's the whole product. WHAT IT DOES - Block by exact text — a person's name, a topic, a movie spoiler, a product - Block by phrase or full regex pattern if you want more control - Works on every site you visit — YouTube, Reddit, news sites, social feeds, search results - Filters the nearest content card, not random characters mid-paragraph - Import and export your rules as JSON to move between machines WHAT IT ISN'T - Not an AI filter. There's no model deciding what you "probably" want hidden. Exact text matching, with Unicode handling for things like fullwidth characters and diacritics. - Not a thumbnail blocker. If the title doesn't say "Mr Beast," the video tile isn't hidden. - Not a tracker. No analytics, no telemetry, no backend, no cloud sync beyond Chrome's own storage sync. - Not a community blocklist platform. Your rules are your rules. Sharing isn't a feature. PRIVACY Your blocklist lives in chrome.storage.sync (syncs across your own signed-in Chrome browsers via Google's standard sync) and chrome.storage.local (for hit counters you can see). Page text is read locally to match against your rules. Nothing is sent to any external server. No remote code is loaded. The full source is on GitHub. WHO IT'S FOR People who already know what they want to ignore — a specific creator, a topic, a category of news, a spoiler, an ex. If you want an AI to guess for you, this isn't the tool. If you want a sharp instrument that does one thing and gets out of the way, install it and add your first rule.
