### Free features

- **One-click clip** — hit the toolbar icon; ClipCite extracts the article body using Mozilla Readability (the same engine behind Firefox Reader View).
- **Automatic citation** — ClipCite reads Highwire/Google Scholar citation tags, Dublin Core, and Open Graph metadata; if the page exposes a DOI, it enriches the citation via Crossref for full journal metadata. Output is **BibTeX** by default.
- **Highlights preserved** — selected text on the page is appended as a "Highlights" section below the article clip.
- **Send to clipboard** — one click copies the full Markdown + citation to your clipboard, ready to paste into any editor.
- **Download as file** — save the clip as a `.md` file directly from the popup, no extra permissions required.

### Privacy-first

All data — clips, history, your Notion token — is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage. ClipCite has no server. The only outbound calls are to Crossref/doi.org (DOI lookup) and Notion (only when you explicitly send a clip). No analytics, no tracking.
