Changelog
- May 30, 2026description
Translator is a Chrome extension that translates selected text on any webpage. Highlight some text and a popup appears next to it with the translation. You can copy it, pin it, hear it spoken, and drag the corner to resize. Select any word, sentence, or paragraph and the translation shows up beside it in under a second. The popup can be dragged around the page, resized from the corner, and zoomed with Ctrl + scroll. It supports regional dialects for speech — Egyptian Arabic, Mexican Spanish, Quebec French, Brazilian Portuguese, and about 30 others across 20+ languages. The Speak button picks the closest matching voice on your system. If you connect an OpenAI key, translations take slang, idioms, and the type of page you're reading (news, social, code docs) into account rather than going word-for-word. There are eight themes Light, Dark, Auto, Translator, Ocean, Forest, Midnight, and Amber and you can set a custom accent color that applies across the popup, toolbar, and settings page. Alt+T translates the current selection. Alt+Shift+T toggles the auto-popup. Both can be remapped at chrome. The extension only sends your selected text to whichever translation provider you've chosen. No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party trackers. Settings, history, pins, and cache stay in your browser. Google is the default and free with no key required. You can also use DeepL, MyMemory, OpenAI, or your own LibreTranslate instance. If the chosen provider fails, it falls back to Google free, then My Memory. Recent translations are cached in IndexedDB and returned instantly when you select the same phrase again. You can pin favorites and browse the last 500 in the options page, with search and one-click replay. Clicking the arrows between the language pills swaps source and target and re-translates. Right-click and choose "Translate entire page" to translate every visible text node in place; click again to restore the originals. Languages supported: 100+, including Arabic (Modern Standard, Egyptian, Levantine, Maghrebi), Spanish (Castilian, Mexican, Argentinian), English (US, UK, Australian, Indian), Portuguese (Brazilian, European), French (France, Quebec), Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Turkish, Dutch, Polish, Persian, Hebrew, Urdu, and around 70 more.
