About

Opal is a reading productivity extension that lets you save any web page to your personal Opal library and instantly read an AI-generated summary — without leaving the browser.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Click the Opal icon in your toolbar on any article, blog post, documentation page, or thread.
2. Optionally add a "focus prompt" (e.g. "What are the business implications?") to guide the summary.
3. Hit Save. Opal sends the page to your library and begins summarizing it.
4. Click the icon again on any page you've already saved — the popup shows the TL;DR and key points inline.

FEATURES
• One-click save — clip the current tab to your Opal library instantly
• Focus prompts — direct the AI to highlight a specific angle before saving
• AI summaries in the popup — read TL;DR and up to 4 key takeaways without opening a new tab
• Processing indicator — a progress bar shows when Opal is still summarizing
• Open in app — jump to the full Opal reading experience for chat, notes, and more
• Secure authentication — connects to your Opal account via a one-time token; no passwords stored in the extension

WHAT OPAL DOES NOT DO
This extension does not play, stream, download, or modify any media. It does not inject scripts into pages or read page content locally — the page URL is sent to Opal's servers (get-opal.com) for processing.

PERMISSIONS USED
• activeTab — to read the URL of the tab you are currently viewing, so Opal knows which page to save
• storage — to remember your authentication token between sessions so you stay logged in

GETTING STARTED
After installing, click the Opal icon and select "Connect to Opal". You will be taken to get-opal.com to sign in. Once connected, you can save any page immediately.
