About

End-users of the Internet can also use it to view Originator Profile (OP) information information.

OP information is to verify “who the content creator is and what kind of entity they are,” “who  distributes the content (who operates the website),” and “whether the content has been altered or unintentionally clipped from its original form.” 

Proof of the content originator's real-world existence, endorsed by more than one publicly recognized third-party organization, is also included in the OP information.

Such information, secured with digital signatures, is attached to content and websites and can be verified with the OP Inspector.

This Originator Profile framework is currently being proposed as a web standard.


▌ For developers

This extension provides verification and debugging features for developers to:

• Track errors caused by key revocation or misconfiguration
• Visualize content tampering detection status and signature verification results
• Identifying operational inconsistencies and issues


▌ For end-users

End-users can verify:

• Who the content creator is
• Who the site operator is
• Whether the content has been altered or tampered with (along with the information specifying the scope of the articles or content verified)
• Which third-party organization has verified the existence of the content creator or the website operator

Users can make informed decisions to protect themselves against the risks of spoofing sites and malicious redirection by accurately recognizing the content creator or site operator.

Note: The user interface (UI) of this extension is designed to verify the OP information of contents and websites. Future browser-native or standard UIs may differ.


▌ Notes

OP technology is currently in the specification-drafting stage and is being  adopted by  companies in phases. As such, it is implemented on only a limited number of websites and is not yet supported by all websites.

OP Inspector aims to drive continuous technical improvements based on feedback from both the OP developers and users.
