About

A lightweight text processing tool that runs entirely in your browser's side panel. Split large blocks of text into smaller, organized segments using multiple splitting methods. Count words, characters, paragraphs, and slices in real time. Copy or export results instantly.

Overview

Text Splitter & Counter provides a fast, distraction-free way to divide text into manageable parts. It opens directly in Chrome's side panel, allowing you to work alongside any webpage without switching tabs. All processing is performed locally on your device — no data is transmitted externally.

This tool is designed for anyone who regularly works with text that needs to be broken into smaller pieces: writers preparing threaded posts, developers splitting payloads, students organizing notes, or professionals formatting content for platforms with length restrictions.

Features

Split Modes

The extension offers five distinct methods for dividing text:

Words: Split text at every N words. Suitable for platforms or workflows with word-count limits.

Characters: Split text at every N characters. Ideal for strict character-limit platforms such as Twitter/X or SMS.

Sentences: Split text at every N sentences. Maintains natural readability within each segment.

Paragraphs: Split text at every N paragraphs. Best for structured, section-based content.

Slice: Specify the total number of parts desired. The extension distributes words evenly across the specified number of segments, producing balanced output regardless of total length.

Real-Time Statistics

As you type or paste text, the following metrics update automatically:

Word count

Character count

Paragraph count

Slice count (after a split operation)

Export and Copy

Copy individual slices to clipboard

Export individual slices as .txt files

Copy All: concatenate all slices and copy to clipboard

Export All: download each slice as a separate numbered .txt file

Custom filename prefix (e.g., "Chapter-1.txt", "Part-1.txt")

Text Cleanup

An optional trim toggle removes excessive whitespace and redundant newlines before processing. This produces cleaner, more consistent splits from irregularly formatted source text.

File Loading

Import text directly from a .txt file stored on your device. No copy-paste required.

Persistent State

Your input text, selected settings, and generated slices are saved automatically to local storage. Returning to the extension restores your previous session exactly as you left it.

Operation History

The extension retains a record of your five most recent split operations, displaying the mode, size, and slice count for each. History can be cleared at any time.

How to Use

Click the extension icon in your toolbar to open the side panel.

Paste text into the input field, or click Load to import a .txt file.

Select a split mode (Words, Characters, Sentences, Paragraphs, or Slice).

Enter the desired size or number of parts.

Optionally enable Trim to clean whitespace before splitting.

Click Split Text.

Use Copy or Export on individual slices, or use Copy All / Export All for batch output.
