About
Lock your browser with a password — keep your tabs, messages, and accounts private when you step away. Browserlock is a simple, privacy-first browser lock for Chrome. Set a password and lock your entire browser in one click — or let it lock automatically when you're away. When you come back, unlock and pick up exactly where you left off. Most browser lockers close and reopen your tabs, so you lose your place and any unsaved work. Browserlock doesn't. Its Lossless lock simply hides your windows and restores them untouched. WHAT BROWSERLOCK DOES • Lock your whole browser with a password, instantly from the toolbar • Auto-lock when idle / away from keyboard, after a number of minutes you choose • Lock on startup, so the browser opens straight to the password screen • A full-screen lock screen keeps your tabs and content out of sight WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE BROWSERLOCK ★ Lossless — keeps your open tabs, tab groups, scroll position, and unsaved work exactly as they were. No reloading, no lost work. ★ Private by design — 100% local. No account, no sign-in, no servers, no tracking, no ads. Your password and settings never leave your device. ★ Won't interrupt your media — auto-lock pauses while a tab is playing sound, so it won't cut off a video or a call. ★ Never get locked out — recover with a security question, or a timed self-reset that you control. ★ Two modes — Lossless (keep everything) or Strict (close every window so nothing shows at all). GREAT FOR • Privacy in an open office or coworking space • Keeping kids or family out of your accounts • Shared, public, or library computers • A quick lock screen for Chrome whenever you leave your desk PRIVACY & SECURITY Browserlock requests only the minimal permissions it needs and does not read the content of the pages you visit. Your password is stored only as a salted hash — never in plain text. Nothing is ever sent to a server. HONEST NOTE Browserlock is privacy protection against casual snooping — a colleague, a family member, or a passer-by. It is not designed to stop a determined technical user, who could disable the extension from Chrome's extensions page. FAQ Q: Will I lose my tabs or unsaved work when I lock? A: No. In Lossless mode (the default), your windows are hidden and then restored exactly as they were — tabs, tab groups, scroll position, and unsaved form input all stay intact. Prefer total invisibility? Switch to Strict mode. Q: Does Browserlock collect or send my data anywhere? A: No. It runs 100% locally. There is no account, no sign-in, no server, and no analytics. Your password and settings stay on your device. Q: What if I forget my password? A: You can recover instantly with a security question, or start a timed self-reset from the lock screen (you choose how long to wait). You will not be permanently locked out. Q: Will auto-lock interrupt me during a video or meeting? A: No. Auto-lock pauses while a tab is playing sound, so it won't lock during videos or calls. You can turn this off if you prefer. Q: Does it work on Edge, Brave, and other Chromium browsers? A: Yes — it works on Chromium-based browsers that support Manifest V3 extensions. Q: How do I lock right now? A: Click the Browserlock icon in the toolbar and choose "Lock now." You can also enable auto-lock and lock on startup. Q: Can someone bypass the lock? A: Browserlock stops casual snooping, but it is not tamper-proof — a technical user could disable the extension. Think of it as a privacy cover, not a vault.
