About
**What it does** page2md turns the page in your **current tab** into clean Markdown. Use it to capture documentation, articles, or internal wiki pages as `.md` for notes, repos, or AI workflows. **Works hand-in-hand with the page2md web app** Use the extension to convert a page that’s **already open in your tab**—especially when you’re signed in or the content only exists after JavaScript runs. Use the **page2md web app** (https://amm-page2md.vercel.app/) when you want URL-based conversion, paste/HTML modes, or **JSON** output for tooling. The app and extension share a searchable conversion history stored in your browser so nothing gets lost. **Why use it in the browser** The extension extracts markdown directly from the page you're viewing. Content that only appears when you’re logged in (or behind a session) is included. **Formatting & structure** Output is tuned for real pages: GFM-style tables, fenced code blocks (with language tags when the page exposes them), headings, lists, and links—so you can paste into docs or repos without rebuilding structure by hand. **Expands hidden content** Before conversion, the extension tries to open common collapsed sections (accordions, “show more,” and similar) so text that only appears after expanding is included when the page allows it. **In the popup** - **Convert** — one click to extract main content and generate Markdown. - **Preview** — skim the result before you copy or save. - **Copy** — put Markdown on the clipboard. - **Download** — save extracted content as a .md file - **History** — recent conversions with **search** (by date, title, or body text) and **clear all** when you want a fresh start. History is **shared with the page2md web app** in this browser and **persists** when you close the tab or start a new session. **Privacy & permissions** The extension uses **activeTab**, **scripting**, and **storage**. It reads the active page **when you run a conversion**—not silently in the background for that. A small **content script** loads on sites you visit so the web app can sync history with the extension’s local storage; it does not send your page content to a server for that. History is stored **locally** in the browser; the extension does not upload it for the history UI. **Note** This extension outputs **Markdown** from the popup. For URL/paste/HTML workflows, **JSON** output, or a full-screen editor experience, open the **page2md web app**—your history will follow you there in the same browser.
