About

Publy is a Chrome extension that scans any public Google Scholar profile and exports the complete publication list to a Word document (.docx), Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx), or CSV file. It is intended for researchers, faculty members, and academic administrators who need a formatted publication list for CVs, annual reports, grant applications, tenure packages, or departmental records.
——————————————————————
HOW IT WORKS
Open any public Google Scholar profile in Chrome, then click the Publy icon in the toolbar. The extension scans the page and automatically expands all publications, so the complete record is captured regardless of profile size. A summary is then displayed showing the author's name, institutional affiliation, total citation count, h-index, and i10-index as reported on the profile.
Select your export format, configure any options, and click Export Now. The file is generated entirely within your browser and downloaded directly to your computer.
——————————————————————
EXPORT FORMATS
Word (.docx)
Produces a structured document with publications listed in numbered, bulleted, or plain paragraph format. Each entry includes the title, authors, venue, and year. An optional citation count ("Cited by N") can be appended to each entry. An optional header block at the top of the document displays the author's name, affiliation, and citation metrics, suitable for appending directly to a CV or faculty bio.

Excel (.xlsx)
Produces a spreadsheet with one publication per row. Columns include: number, title, authors, year, venue, and optionally citations. Column widths are pre-formatted for readability.

CSV (.csv)
Follows the same column structure as the Excel export. Compatible with any spreadsheet application, reference manager, or database tool.
——————————————————————
PRIVACY
Publy operates entirely within your browser. No data is collected, transmitted, or stored on any server. All scanning and file generation happens locally on your machine. The extension does not access your browsing history, bookmarks, or any data outside the active Scholar tab.
——————————————————————
PERMISSIONS
Publy requests only two permissions:
— activeTab: to read the content of the currently active Google Scholar profile page.
— scripting: to inject the scanning script into the page.
No other permissions are requested or used.
——————————————————————
LIMITATIONS
— Publy works on public Google Scholar profiles only. It does not function on private profiles, search results pages, or any other website.
— All data (titles, authors, venues, years, citation counts) is sourced directly from what Google Scholar displays on the profile page at the time of scanning. Publy does not verify, supplement, or modify this data.
— Publications with no year listed on Scholar will appear with "N/A" in the year field of the exported file.
