About

Tab Stash is a Chrome extension for people who open too many tabs and feel anxious about closing them.

You know the feeling: you searched something, opened 8 tabs, moved on, and three days later those tabs still sit there — important enough to keep, forgotten enough to ignore. Tab Stash solves that in three moves.

──────────────────────────────────────
GROUP — One click, named Chrome groups
──────────────────────────────────────

Click "Group tabs" and Tab Stash instantly organizes your open tabs into named Chrome tab groups. It uses domain signals by default (all your Google Docs tabs together, all your GitHub tabs together), and optionally uses AI to group semantically across different domains — e.g. all your "product research" tabs in one group even if they're spread across five websites.

Bring your own API key for AI grouping — works with Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini. No subscription, no markup.

Tab Stash never touches tabs you've already grouped manually.

──────────────────────────────────────
ARCHIVE — Silent, automatic cleanup
──────────────────────────────────────

Tabs you haven't visited in a while get quietly moved to a searchable archive. No popups, no notifications. They just disappear from your tab bar — and live safely in the archive.

You control the aggressiveness (how long until a tab is considered "stale"), how often Tab Stash checks, and what's exempt: pinned tabs, tabs playing audio, and already-grouped tabs can all be protected.

The scoring formula weighs recency (60%) and visit frequency (40%), so tabs you've been to several times recently are protected even if your last visit was a day ago.

──────────────────────────────────────
RECALL — Instantly find and restore
──────────────────────────────────────

Open the full archive page to browse everything Tab Stash has saved. Search by title or domain. Filter by Today, This Week, or Older. Select multiple archived tabs and restore them all at once, or delete ones you no longer need.

Export your full archive as JSON for your own records.

──────────────────────────────────────
PRIVACY FIRST
──────────────────────────────────────

Everything is stored locally on your machine — IndexedDB and chrome.storage.local. No data ever leaves your browser except the tab titles/URLs sent to the AI provider you configure (Claude or Gemini) only when you explicitly trigger grouping. Tab Stash strips email addresses and access tokens from tab titles before sending.

No account required. No telemetry. No analytics.

──────────────────────────────────────
WHO IS THIS FOR?
──────────────────────────────────────

Tab Stash is built for the Reluctant Hoarder — someone who opens 10–30 tabs across a couple of research threads, forgets about them, and feels a low-grade anxiety about closing them because they feel like pending tasks.

This is NOT a tab manager for 200-tab power users or a bookmark replacement. It's a focused tool that cleans up the mess quietly and lets you get back what you need when you need it.
