About

ClickToDoc turns any browser workflow into a polished, share-ready step-by-step guide. Click around like you normally would; ClickToDoc captures each step with a screenshot, a short caption, and a marker showing what was clicked. When you're done, hit Export and you have an HTML page, a Word document, or a Markdown file ready to share.

Made for the people who write the same how-to twice a week: support agents, IT admins, onboarding leads, professors, consultants, and anyone documenting a SaaS tool or internal portal.

Why ClickToDoc

- Local-first by design. Nothing leaves your browser. No account. No backend. No telemetry. No tracking. Your recordings live in your browser's local storage and are never uploaded anywhere.

- Three export formats. Self-contained HTML (screenshots embedded as base64; share by sending one file). DOCX (Microsoft Word and Google Docs compatible, with cover page, table of contents, and palette options). CommonMark Markdown.

- Polished by default. Spotlight effect on the click target, automatic captions, click bullseye, smart zoom on the clicked area, full-page screenshots inlined.

- Edit before you ship. Crop, add headings, notes, manual snapshots, arrows, highlights, blurred regions, freehand drawing, text labels, smart-erase. Reorder, delete, hide, or flag any step.

- Sensitive-field protection. Passwords and obviously private fields are masked at capture. Smart-redact scans for credit cards, emails, phone numbers, and similar patterns and marks them for blur.

- Auto-backup. Optional scheduled JSON snapshots saved to your Downloads folder. Backups are cross-device portable: drop one on any machine, hit Restore, you're back.

- Branding controls. Upload a header banner, cover logo, footer text, custom subtitle, and author line for your DOCX exports. Import a Word template (.docx) to extract its cover, header, footer, and heading styles.

What this is not

- It is not a screen recorder. Single screenshots per click, not video.
- It is not a cloud service. There is no website to sign into, no shared library.
- It is not a hosted product. Everything stays on the machine the extension is installed on.
