  About the Collection:
Between 1886 and 1942, USDA artists created thousands of detailed watercolor illustrations documenting fruit and nut varieties grown in the United States. These paintings were created for the USDA's Division of Pomology to document and identify different cultivars. Today, they represent both scientific documentation and extraordinary American art.

Each painting captures not just the appearance but the character of these heritage varieties — many of which are now rare or extinct. From common apples to exotic citrus, each illustration tells a story of American agricultural history.

  Perfect for:
  • Art and history enthusiasts
  • Gardeners and botanists
  • Anyone who appreciates beautiful, calming imagery
  • People looking to add inspiration to their daily browsing
