About

YTGrab is your YouTube toolbar companion. Open the popup on any YouTube tab and you have one-click access to the things you actually need: the video's transcript, its thumbnails, a clean share-to-site button, your recent videos, and — when you need an offline copy — a format picker that saves through the browser's own download manager.

What's in the toolbar popup
• Transcript — pick a language and download as .srt (timed) or .txt (plain). Powered by YouTube's public captions.
• Thumbnails — grab the cover image at four resolutions in one click.
• Open on web — opens youtubegrab.com/watch?v=<id> in a new tab for the full toolbox (advanced merging, Live, age-gated handling, transcript translation).
• Recent videos — your last 5 sends show as quick-jump chips with titles; expandable to 20.
• Save options — when you want an offline copy: pick a bucket (Standard / Audio / Video / Advanced-merged), pick a quality, save. Files are written through your browser's own download manager — no third-party servers handle the bytes after the URL is resolved.

Right-click shortcut
• Right-click any YouTube link anywhere on the web → "Send to YTGrab" opens it on youtubegrab.com.

Keyboard shortcut
• Alt+Shift+G (Cmd+Shift+G on macOS) opens the popup for the active tab. Customize at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

What this extension does NOT do
• Does NOT inject any UI into youtube.com.
• Does NOT request host permissions on youtube.com — it never reads or modifies YouTube pages.
• Does NOT read your browsing history.
• Does NOT track you. No third-party analytics SDK loads at runtime.

Permissions, plainly
• "tabs" — read the active tab's URL so the popup knows which video you're on.
• "storage" — remember your recent videos locally (chrome.storage.local; never leaves your browser).
• "contextMenus" — show the "Send to YTGrab" item when you right-click a YouTube link.
• "downloads" — write the file the user picks (transcript, thumbnail, or media) through the browser's own download manager.
• Host access to youtubegrab.com — the popup calls the YTGrab API there to fetch transcripts, thumbnails, format lists, and to resolve a stream URL when the user picks a save option.

About youtubegrab.com
youtubegrab.com is the full web app the extension talks to. The extension is a thin client: it does not bundle media-handling code, it does not communicate with youtube.com or googlevideo.com directly, and it does not run any remote scripts at runtime.
