Markdowned turns the page you're reading into clean, well-formed Markdown with a single click. Copy it to your clipboard or download it as a .md file — everything runs entirely on your device.

WHY MARKDOWNED?

Copying a web page rarely gives you usable text: you get styling junk, broken tables, relative links that point nowhere, and a pile of navigation and ads around the actual content. Markdowned produces Markdown that survives being pasted anywhere — into a note-taking app, a Git repo, a static site generator, or an LLM prompt.

WHAT IT DOES

✓ One-click conversion — open the popup, hit Convert page, done.
✓ Real GFM tables — proper pipe tables with correct escaping, where most converters flatten tables into word soup.
✓ Absolute URLs — relative links and images are rewritten against the page URL, and lazy-loaded images are resolved, so the output works wherever you paste it.
✓ Smart scope — convert the full page (default) or switch to "Main content", which uses Readability-style scoring to isolate the article and drop menus, sidebars and "related articles" rails. The result line shows how much of the page was kept.
✓ Figures with captions, code blocks, blockquotes, nested lists — all preserved.
✓ Embedded iframe content is included when accessible.

MAKE THE OUTPUT YOURS

- Links: inline [t](url), referenced [t][1], or stripped to plain text
- Images: keep or remove
- Emphasis: _underscore_ or *asterisk*
- Headings: ATX (#) or Setext (underline)
- Bullets: - * +  ·  Code blocks: fenced or indented
- Optional YAML frontmatter (title, url, date)

"Strip links" and "Remove images" are perfect when preparing text for an AI assistant — clean prose without URL clutter. All settings persist between sessions.

WORKFLOW DETAILS

- Copy to clipboard or download as a slugified .md file (e.g. quantum-chips-arrive-2026-07-02.md)
- Reopening the popup on the same page restores your last conversion instantly
- Every step is timeout-bounded — a stuck page shows an error, never an endless spinner

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Markdowned makes zero network requests. No external servers, no analytics, no tracking, no accounts — it doesn't even request host permissions. The page is read only when you click the button, and your settings are stored locally in your browser. The source code is open (MIT licensed).
