About

Most tools for learning Japanese from anime assume you can already read Japanese subtitles. AnimeVocab doesn't. It watches with you, pauses on one word worth learning, and shows it in romaji with the meaning and the exact line it was spoken.

Listening Mode transcribes the audio in real time, so it works on Netflix and Crunchyroll even when no Japanese subtitles exist. It also reads on-screen subtitles on YouTube and any site with HTML5 caption tracks.

Spaced repetition is built in — reviews find you in the next episode, so words stick without a separate flashcard session. Everything is romaji-first, so you can start on episode one before you can read kana.

Free, open source, and local-first: your words stay on your device, no account needed to start.

What you get:
• One useful word per line, in romaji, with meaning and the exact scene
• Listening Mode — real-time transcription for Netflix, Crunchyroll, and any video
• Built-in spaced repetition, no Anki required
• Works on YouTube, Netflix, Crunchyroll, and HTML5 video
• Romaji-first cards; switch to kana or kanji when you're ready
• Private by default — data stays in your browser, no tracking
