The small parrot perched here is a Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus), specifically displaying the typical wild-type coloration. Its plumage is a striking combination of a brilliant yellow head and face, set off by a series of small, dark blue throat spots and bright blue feathering on the cere area (indicating a male). The body is a vibrant lime green, while the back and wings are beautifully detailed with fine, dark, scalloped markings, giving them a rich, speckled pattern. A long, slender blue tail tapers gracefully from the body. This species, originating from the arid grasslands of Australia, is celebrated for its nomadic nature in the wild, constantly seeking out water and seeding grasses.
