About
MedPrism — Medical Literature Integrity Checker MedPrism helps clinicians, researchers, and evidence-based practitioners quickly assess the integrity of published research papers — directly from their browser, without interrupting their reading workflow. What MedPrism Does: MedPrism analyzes research papers for signals related to methodology, transparency, and publication integrity. It examines: Statistical methodology — multiple comparisons without correction, post-hoc analyses presented as pre-specified, borderline p-values, and effect size plausibility Reporting integrity — selective outcome reporting, outcome switching, and inconsistencies between methods and results sections Transparency disclosures — conflict of interest statements, data availability, funding disclosure, and trial pre-registration Publication integrity — journal credibility, retraction history, predatory publisher screening, and DOI verification Study design — methodological limitations relative to the claims being made Citation context — cross-referencing against external integrity databases Each analysis produces a plain-language briefing, a structured verdict, detailed flag explanations with supporting excerpts from the paper, and a complete transparency disclosure summary. Three Verdicts: Every analysis concludes with one of three assessments: ✓ Read Carefully — No significant integrity concerns identified. The paper meets standard transparency and methodological reporting expectations. ⚠ Read Critically — One or more moderate integrity signals detected. The findings warrant closer evaluation before applying results. ✗ Use With Caution — Significant integrity concerns identified across one or more categories. The paper should be carefully evaluated before its findings are relied upon. How It Works: Navigate to any research article in Chrome and click the MedPrism toolbar button. The side panel opens alongside your article. Click Analyze Paper and MedPrism retrieves the article text automatically. Results appear in two stages. The briefing and verdict appear first, typically within 30–60 seconds. The Full Report button then opens a complete detailed analysis in a new tab, including all flag explanations, transparency disclosures, database cross-reference results, and clinical interpretation guidance. The full report can be printed or saved as a PDF directly from the browser. For indexed research articles, MedPrism detects the article automatically and retrieves the full text from open-access repositories where available. For journal and preprint pages, MedPrism extracts article text directly from the page — provided you are on the full-text view and logged in if the content is paywalled. Important Considerations: MedPrism assesses methodology, transparency, and publication integrity signals only. It does not evaluate whether the science is correct, whether a study's conclusions are valid, or whether findings should be applied clinically. All outputs are advisory. MedPrism is not a substitute for expert peer review or clinical judgment. MedPrism is powered by Claude AI (Anthropic) and Brave Search. Artificial intelligence can and does make mistakes — including misidentifying flags, missing relevant concerns, misinterpreting context, or producing inaccurate characterizations. Web search results may be incomplete, outdated, or occasionally incorrect. No AI analysis or search-based finding should be treated as definitive. All findings should be independently verified by qualified experts before informing clinical, research, or publishing decisions. Every user is required to read and acknowledge the MedPrism Terms of Use before each session. By using MedPrism, users confirm that they understand all outputs are advisory and informational only, and that they accept sole responsibility for any decisions made based on MedPrism results. PKL Media Lab and Paul Laikind, PhD disclaim all liability for how this tool is used or how its outputs are interpreted or applied. For best results, analysis should be performed on full-text articles rather than abstracts. Paywalled content that cannot be retrieved automatically can be analyzed by downloading the PDF and using the MedPrism web app at medprism.app, which also supports supplementary material upload. Access MedPrism is currently in private beta and requires an invitation code to use. Access codes can be requested through the PKL Media Lab website at pklmedialab.com. The extension is free — there are no subscription fees or in-app purchases. Privacy: MedPrism does not collect personal information. Article text is transmitted to the MedPrism server for analysis and is not stored beyond the analysis session. No browsing history, search queries, or personal data are collected or retained. Built by PKL Media Lab: MedPrism is developed by Paul Laikind, PhD — PKL Media Lab. Powered by Claude AI (Anthropic) and Brave Search.
