About
SecondView helps improve media literacy by allowing YouTube viewers to collaboratively add context, second perspectives, and critical analysis to specific moments in videos. Contributors can leave targeted notes exactly where issues or important points arise, rather than on entire videos. Notes appear after the targeted moment to ensure viewers first experience the original content, reducing bias and maintaining fairness in how information is presented. Each note includes a misinformation type label, helping viewers understand what kind of potential issue it addresses. All notes are reviewed by the community. Reviewers provide a verdict of accurate or inaccurate, and select at least one reason from multiple categories to explain their judgment. This encourages thoughtful evaluation rather than simple binary voting. scrutiny on every layer. Permissions: Runs on youtube.com specifically YouTube video page. Used to modify the YouTube video page to display notes and related UI. Data usage: Storage: Used to store minimal user information locally. Clipboard: Only accessed when explicitly initiated by the user (e.g., copying an access key). Profiles: Browsing is fully anonymous. Submitting notes or rating requires creating a profile, which can be done on demand with one click. Profiles are anonymous, use a pseudonym, and do not require email. Profiles are not generated automatically on install, but on demand.
