About

Hawaiian Keyboard 2.0 for Chrome OS (not Chrome Browser!)

This new Hawaiian keyboard extension enables you to type the letters and diacritics required in Hawaiian, and works with all applications we have tested in Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, etc.) and other applications.

Please read these instructions completely as the way you type the vowel with kahakō (macron) and ‘okina (glottal stop) is quite different that the original Papa Pihi Hawai‘i posted here in 2021 by necessity

• Pressing the forward slash - / - and a vowel will produce the lower case vowel with macron - āēīōū

• Pressing the forward slash - / - followed by holding down the shift key and then typing a vowel will produce the upper case vowel with macron - ĀĒĪŌŪ

• Typing the apostrophe key with no modifier produced the ‘okina - ‘ (U+2018}. Note this is different than the Unicode that is use by Macintosh OS. I will also explain this later in the document

ī Pressing the forward slash - / and then typing the apostrophe will produce the plain apostrophe.

Full installation and use documentation can be found in the archive and online.
