About
YouTube AV1 Priority is a Chrome extension that makes YouTube prefer AV1 when compatible formats are available. YouTube can already choose AV1 by default, but its automatic selection also considers playback performance, power efficiency, quality options, and its own streaming logic. This extension applies a more direct codec preference. The fixed priority is: AV1 > VP9 > H.264 VP8 is only kept as an internal hidden fallback for old formats. The extension keeps YouTube's existing quality options and only works with formats that YouTube already provides. It does not add AV1 to videos that do not have AV1, and it does not force AV1 on browsers or hardware that cannot play it. There is no configuration popup; the extension runs automatically on YouTube pages.
