About

EyeEase - gentle screen-time hygiene that stays out of your way.
Built by the team behind EyeClinicDirectory.ca, EyeEase is a calm, ad-free Chrome extension for anyone whose eyes hurt by 4pm. It nudges you through the 20-20-20 rule, softens harsh page contrast on sites you choose, and warms your screen in the evening - without nagging, accounts, or analytics.

What it does
A subtle break toast appears every 20 minutes with a 20-second countdown and a different illustrated micro-exercise each time. The timer is activity-aware: it pauses on idle and during fullscreen video, so it never interrupts a meeting or a movie.
A continuous audio cue (soft chime, beep, or off) plays through the break, so you can close your eyes and know exactly when to look back. A mute button on the toast silences just the current break without changing your default.
Reading comfort restyles individual sites with calmer typography, gentler contrast, and softened whites — toggle it per site or with Alt + Shift + R.
Warm tint adds a configurable amber overlay during your chosen evening hours (default 19:00–07:00). A live preview shows what the strength setting will actually look like before you commit.

Other niceties
Master on/off switch in the popup. Keyboard shortcuts for break-now (Alt + Shift + B) and snooze (Alt + Shift + S). A 7-day stats sparkline. Local-first - your stats never leave your machine; settings sync across devices only if you explicitly opt in.

Privacy
EyeEase makes zero network calls. The only outbound traffic happens when you click the optional "Find a clinic" or "Support on Ko-fi" links yourself. No telemetry, no ads, no third parties.

Permissions, in plain language
Storage and alarms keep your settings and timer working when the browser idles. Scripting plus host access let the break toast, reading-comfort styles, and warm tint render on the page you're on. Notifications are a fallback for pages we can't inject into (like chrome:// settings).

Free now, free forever. If EyeEase saves your eyes a bad afternoon, a Ko-fi tip is the only thanks we'll ever ask for.

Category
Productivity (primary). Accessibility works as a secondary if Chrome lets you pick two.

One-line "What's new" for v1.0.6

Break toast now lingers for 7 seconds after the countdown finishes - the ring fills, a teal check replaces the number, and the copy swaps to "Nice - break complete" so you know it landed.
