Jade Dictionary is the fastest way to read Chinese on the web. Hover over any Chinese character and get an instant definition — no clicking, no copying, no switching tabs.

INSTANT HOVER LOOKUP
Move your cursor over Chinese text and a definition card appears in under a second. See the simplified and traditional forms, pinyin with tone marks, and up to three definitions. Works on any website — news, social media, blogs, YouTube subtitles, and more.

THREE LOOKUP MODES
• Auto — definitions appear automatically as you hover (default)
• On Select — highlight any Chinese text to look it up, great for reading dense passages
• Off — disable lookups entirely when you don't need them

Switch modes instantly from the popup with a single click, or use the Alt+J keyboard shortcut to open Jade Dictionary from anywhere.

SAVE WORDS AS YOU READ
Found a word you want to remember? Click "+ Save" on the definition card to add it to your word list instantly. Use the dropdown arrow to save to a specific list instead of the default. Dismiss the card and a save button stays on screen so you never lose a word mid-sentence.

ORGANIZE WITH LISTS AND FOLDERS
Create as many word lists as you need and organize them into folders — the same structure you know from the Jade Dictionary web app. Manage everything from the extension popup without leaving your page.

BUILT-IN DICTIONARY SEARCH
Open the popup and search directly from the extension. Type Chinese characters, pinyin (with or without tone marks), or English to find any of the 120,000+ entries in the dictionary. Results are ranked by relevance — exact matches first, then prefix, then partial — the same algorithm used by Jade Dictionary on the web. Tap any result to see the full entry with all definitions, then save it or open it in Jade Dictionary with one click.

SYNC WITH JADE DICTIONARY
Sign in with your Google account to sync saved words and lists with the Jade Dictionary web app (app.jadedictionary.com). Words saved in the extension appear instantly in the web app and vice versa. No account required to use the extension — everything works locally until you choose to sign in.

Powered by the CC-CEDICT dictionary — the same comprehensive database used by the Jade Dictionary Android app. Covers Mandarin Chinese with simplified characters, traditional characters, pinyin, and English definitions for over 120,000 words and phrases.

PRIVACY FIRST
The extension reads page text only to detect Chinese characters under your cursor. No page content, browsing history, or personal data from visited pages is ever collected or transmitted. Your saved words are stored on your device and only synced to Jade Dictionary servers if you choose to sign in.
