Business Investigator is a part of the OpenDiscovery project that enables legitimate businesses to prove their identity online and publish further authoritative information about their services. 

The specific purpose of the Business Investigator extension is to provide such relevant verified information about website ownership, thus helping website users to avoid phishing and other types of fraud.

OpenDiscovery basically relies on verifying a binding between a registered business entity and its website(s) in real time. Based on this binding the resolver used with the extension can fetch - for presentation to the user - further data from other reliable sources that use the Business ID or the Domain name as a reference. Currently this works in a limited, but growing number of primarily EU countries offering rich and freely accessible entity data.
