About
Retyc for Gmail adds a button to every Gmail compose window that lets you transfer end-to-end encrypted files to your email without leaving the page. Click it, pick your files (or drag them anywhere onto the Gmail tab), and Retyc handles encryption and upload before inserting a secure link into your message. How it works in practice: You compose an email like you normally would. When you click the Retyc icon in the compose toolbar, a small panel opens on top of Gmail. It already knows who the email is going to, because it reads the To, Cc and Bcc fields directly from the compose window and keeps them in sync as you edit. You select the files you want to send, or drop them onto the page, and Retyc encrypts them in your browser before anything is uploaded. The plaintext bytes never leave your machine. When the upload finishes, Retyc inserts a link into the body of your email. Recipients open the link and decrypt the files on their end. Keys are handled client side, so the server hosting the encrypted blobs cannot read what you sent. A few things worth knowing: Your auth tokens are stored in the browser's local extension storage, not in cookies or page-accessible JavaScript. The panel runs in an isolated iframe, so the Gmail page itself cannot see your files or session. The panel is draggable, closes with Escape or a click outside, and remembers where you left it for the rest of the compose session. Closing the compose window cleans everything up. Works on Chrome and Firefox with the same codebase. No account is created from this extension alone; you sign into your existing Retyc account from the panel. Retyc is built for people who want to keep using Gmail but need real end-to-end encryption for the files they send, without switching to a separate app or asking recipients to install anything.
