## Detailed Description

Auto Exchange Rate helps Chinese-speaking users quickly understand foreign prices while browsing the web.

Select a supported amount on any webpage, and the extension shows an RMB conversion popup near the selected text. It supports common fiat currencies, selected crypto assets, and precious metals.

Supported examples:

- `$100`
- `EUR 99`
- `120 AUD`
- `S$39 SGD`
- `BTC 0.015`
- `0.5 ETH`
- `XAU 1`
- `12 XAG`

Features:

- Converts selected amounts to CNY / RMB.
- Shows Chinese asset names such as 美元, 欧元, 黄金, 白银, 比特币.
- Shows precious metals in yuan per gram for easier understanding.
- Supports active lookup from the extension popup, such as `USD`, `黄金`, `白银`, `BTC`, or `ETH`.
- Caches recent rates locally to reduce repeated requests.
- Falls back to cached rates when providers are temporarily unavailable.
- Does not modify webpage content.

Used to fetch crypto and precious metal USD reference prices, which are then converted to CNY.

## Privacy Practices

The extension does not collect or sell personal data. Selected text is parsed locally. The extension only requests exchange-rate data from public rate providers and stores recent rates locally in `chrome.storage.local`.
